My name is Mina Jafari Roe. I am an Iranian Canadian entrepreneur, who moved to Canada 35 years ago. I have lived in Canada most of my life.
I am a mother, a wife, and a grandmother to beautiful children, adorable grandchildren and a wonderful husband, who have completely supported me and my passion. I am a creator. I like to make handmade products from sewing, quilting, embroidery, crafting, screen printing and much more. Thank you for stopping by and checking out my business.
I am the Owner of Sewing, Quilting & Embroidery By Mina. I learned sewing from my mother when I was a little girl. Then I learned it professionally at a sewing school in Iran, but I never sewed for anyone as a business, just as a hobby.
Later on, I graduated from university in Iran and became a high school teacher of literature and history. I have loved teaching from the early days to the present. After moving to Canada with my children, I started a different business and worked in Ontario for 27 years. Then I retired and moved to Nova Scotia. I never thought I was going to start working again, but I did! Never say never!
I started quilting in Ontario when I tried to fix my mother’s old handmade quilt, and I fell in love with the art and design of quilting. Then I took many quilting classes to add to my knowledge. Since then I have made many beautiful quilts for family, friends and customers. I have also made many memory quilts and enjoyed doing them. I believe these can keep the memory of loved ones alive. Also I have made many stuffed animals from loved one's clothes for their grandchildren. When people ask me about my passion and the love I have for my business, the answer is this: Every time I use the sewing machine to make something significant, I feel my mother is beside me and watching me. This gives me confidence and love. I feel she is proud of me and I do my best to create projects to the best of my abilities. I know that if I make my customers happy, I am making my mother happy also.
I love to learn something new every day! Recently I added a t-shirt business and screen printing to my embroidery business.
The embroidery and screen printing gas taken my business to a different level, and gave a choice to customers to choose different options for their handmade items. I really enjoy making things by combining embroidery with screen printing.
The other part of my main job is teaching. I have private classes and group classes in sewing and quilting as well. When I see the success of my students, I know I am helping them to enter the business world and open their own businesses or start their own clothing lines.
As an immigrant myself I have helped many immigrants from other countries, such as Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Africa and Ukraine. I try to give back to the community and share my knowledge and my story with them. If I can do it, they can do it too.
Embroidery is another art which takes me to a happy place. It is a kind of meditation for me. You would be amazed at the endless creativity. I have completed many projects and l love them all, and I always like to share my experience and knowledge with others to make their own masterpieces.
I also like to design things that I like which may be hard to find in other places, and then to share them with others. I feel good when my clients are happy and keep coming back. This is the most reward my work gives me.
Throughout my life journey, I have received many diplomas and certificates from Iran, Turkey, the US, and Canada. My latest achievement is joining Dalhousie University in Halifax to study fashion and custom design further.
Thank you for stopping by and I am looking forward to serving you in person or online!
